Transformational Tools Workshop Series

As part of the Anti-Racist Transformation in Medical Education (ART in Med Ed) program at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, we are offering a Transformational Tools Workshop Series. This series will include 10 transformational change management and systems tools over the course of ten months. Although these sessions are designed to build on one another, they can also be used independently. These workshops are open to anyone invested in transformational, anti-racist, and systemic change at their institutions.

We invite you to share these sessions widely with your colleagues and encourage them to join us in these national conversations. These sessions will not be recorded. Mark your calendars and register today.

Transformational Tools Workshop Schedule

Wednesday, April 26 | 12:00-1:30pm EST

Workshop #4: Creating Integration and Acceleration Strategies

Often we work in silos and don’t intentionally plan for integration that can accelerate change. Let’s intentionally focus on identifying integration strategies to ensure our change targets are aligned and not competing for resources, overlapping in scope, over-taxing capacity, sending mixed messages, or duplicating efforts. Once an integration strategy is identified, we will review how to identify conditions that slow down change and brainstorm strategies to resolve those conditions or prevent them from happening in the first place.

Workshop #5: Measuring Change with Results-Based Accountability

Now that you have your change targets, tactical plan, and clear strategies, it’s critically important to monitor and track change over time. Results-Based Accountability™ (RBA) is used as a framework to create a plan for collecting data to ensure you are capturing how much you did (quantity), how well you did it (quality), and if anyone is better off (effect).

Workshop #6: Monitoring Change with Outcome and Strategy Journals

As you implement your tactical plan to achieve your change targets, you will need to determine if you are in fact seeing the behavioral changes that you would expect to see, like to see, and love to see as they relate to your change targets. Learn how to use an outcome journal to monitor progress over time. Then, in order to monitor the effectiveness of your actions, you can use a strategy journal to record data on the approaches being employed.

Workshop #7: Designing Transformational Change Communications with ADKAR Model

Are you telling, or are you communicating? How can you create communication plans that reflect an understanding of how individuals experience change? To be effective you must consider the building blocks of successful change and the information that will help individuals navigate that change. For people to transition successfully, they will need Awareness, Desire, Knowledge, Ability and Reinforcement (ADKAR).

Workshop #8: Leveraging the Role of the Change Sponsors (leaders)

Do your leaders understand their role in change and its correlation with success? Are they equipped to perform their critical roles? How do you know if you are doing all you can to enable them effectively? Using Prosci’s Best Practices in Change Management, there is a checklist that can be used when engaging senior leaders in your change target initiatives.

Workshop #9: Empowering Broad-Based Action

With the right structures, training, systems, and stakeholder involvement, you can tap into an enormous source of power to produce the needed change. When working towards achieving your change targets, you will need  to empower the broad-based action of multiple stakeholders by removing structural barriers, providing needed training or development, aligning systems to the overarching vision for change, and dealing with resistance and troublesome stakeholders.

Workshop #10: Learning and Course Correcting

Transformational change requires an active process of learning and course correcting. As you implement your change targets new information emerges. Over time you will need to shift your approach as new obstacles or opportunities arise. How can you implement a process that sets expectations for learning and course correction, determines if a course correction is needed and how to plan its implementation, and determine how you will communicate and sustain the changes required when making a course correction? The answer is to create a system for course correction.
